Samford vs. Memphis

Samford vs. Memphis

Postby bulldawgz1 » Tue Dec 05, 2017 3:30 pm

This is the game they put it all together. Actually it's probably isnt.

Memphis is shooting a hideous 26% from 3 this season so far, perhaps in theory samford could make 15 3's compared to memphis' 5 3's and keep the deficit to 15ish?

Funny thing is, the spread is around 8 again. Oddsmakers seem to keep thinking this team won't get annihilated but they just keep getting annihilated over and over lol

We'll most likely finish the out of conference slate at 5-8. That means we will need to finish the SoCon portion of the schedule at 11-7 to finish over .500. Last season we finished 8-10 in league play.

I have no opinions on this, but I hope for the best. Go Dogs.

Half court defense holding its own so far. Memphis not much of an outside shooting team and not high pressure. Dogs with the lead with 13 min left. No high pressure from the dogs!!!! We look better so far. Memphis looks like a good match up for us. Pleased with what I’m seeing.

03 has explained the new wrinkle to the zone. I like it.

That was the best half of basketball I've seen us play. No press. No easy baskets off of it. No over agressive half court defense stretching our players beyond their ability to defend, one guy on the ball outside the three line, Memphis not making their outside shots. I like it. And then the offense gets going and we look half way decent against a traditionally good program. Nice adjustments (no comment on how long it took, but better late than never). Let's put 40 minutes together and hold on in the second half for the win.

Might be Eric Adam's career game. Playing good on both ends of the floor.

Nolan showed me something in the first half.

What a better approach. Seems we spent the last 15 minutes or so of the half in a "pack-line" defense. Kinda mimmicks a 1-2-2, but simply put it puts 4 guys on each corner of the lane, and the only defender outside the lane is the one guarding the ball. When run well, it makes a team have to hit a bunch of jumpshots to win. We've only run some token 3/4 press, just to run a few seconds off the shot clock, and only given up like 4 layups (really good for us, lol). Much better job valuing the basketball and we have plenty of shooters.

Pretty consistent with the way the year has gone so far. Played much better. Let it slipped through our fingers at the end. Tough way to lose.
