You have to ask, who was asleep at the wheel (or worse) when contract extensions were being handed out?

Returning SoCon MPG:
Sharkey 27.2
Nolan 13.7
Lakic 10.6
Rest of roster 0 MPG

Assuming no further defections, we're going to rely on two dudes we have no evidence can play (Austin, Guerrero) + those three as our "veteran" core of the team. Only one of those guys has been on campus for more than 12 months. Whatever the freshmen can do will help, but you don't challenge for a SoCon title with freshmen playing huge minutes. Sure the staff will beat the bushes for one-year rental grad transfers, but that's not sustainable.

We are gonna be so bad. It's a 3-year rebuild from today before we will see evidence Samford basketball can compete unless something dramatically unforeseen happens.

Bennie was encouraged to leave after the first great exodus. What is different about the second great exodus?

Bennie got got for a multitude of reasons, not just transfer exodus. The team GPA/APR was atrocious, the guys he brought in weren't fits from day one, and he seemed totally unable to turn the ship around. There are a lot of things that are different. Three of the four transfers are grad transfers--they've got their degrees. At least 3/4 (maybe all 4?) were great fits for SU and its culture. So those are the major distinctions.

AP, those are positive points. Our smart players who are good kids who got lots of playing time are leaving.

Family over everything . . . .

I have never been totally comfortable with this Family Over Everything mantra. To me it seems a bit incongruent with the mission of our Christian university where yes, family should be high on the list, but it should not be over everything. Maybe I am picking knits here or just maybe it is an example of the program's lack of understanding about our university's culture and mission.

Looks like Ford may have overlapped careers with Headrick at Chipola. Hate to see this.

Jake has done a great job recruiting kids that make sense for Samford. Wish him nothing but the best at Missouri State. Had to be a strong pull to get back to work with a dude he's known/been tight with for more than a decade.
