Congrats UNA Lions

Southern Utah was good enough last year to make the FCS Playoffs. Tonight, however, in Cedar City Utah, they were not good enough to beat the North Alabama Lions. BIG win for the transitioning team from Butkussville.

Congrats to UNA. Over 30 JUCO/transfers on that roster. Interested to see how that works long term.

Almost all were leftovers from the D2 era. We signed highschoolers almost exclusively back in February. Redshirting a truckload.

And now, for defeating the Big Sky defending champion, UNA is chosen FCS Team of The Week:

That's good, I guess. But if that's the case I would imagine a pretty heavy reliance on it this year or next, if not, sounds like the upperclasses will be really thin. Assuming, like you said the transfers were older folks, didnt look that up. You can build a competitive FCS roster very quickly, tried to folks to understand that about KSU.

You're right. Its going to take time. I dont believe anybody will get overconfident. Luckily Bobby Wallace was looking to this moment when he went heavy on redshirting and Willis followed through. The last thing we want is trouble with the ARs. We've passed on a number of players in the last few years that would have brought us another D2 Championship but would have damaged our team GPA. It's probably a good thing that we are ineligible for anything for four years. No reason to go after risky players.

Hooray for UNA (I guess)...Bigger picture, I'm wondering if this game (also or instead - pick your own modifier) further informs us regarding the alleged strength of The Big Sky Conference.

BS UNA will be a top fcs school before you can say little owls. Not much comparison in the two schools and their football tradition. Watch them play well against ND ST this weekend. We always have out in Fargo. How about being nice about the Lions.

The Lions went over to The Hill tonight a beat their second D1 team in a row. I meant to come back and say they don’t play NDST this weekend. That game is in a couple of weeks. Meanwhile the Lions have not lost a d1 game yet.

Just a follow-up on this. UNA beat one d2 by two points, lost to another d2, and got beat by Campbell 30-7. Southern Utah is 1-5.
