Belmont

Has led the nation in 2 point FG% for 5 of the last 6 years.

Just beat KSU @ KSU 91-53 and had 6 players in double figures.

Was the initial opponent for Samford in the PHC on 11/15/07. Bruins won that game 81-73. Justin Hare, who is now in the Belmont HOF, had 25 points that game. His brother Josh, had previously played for Samford 2002-2005.

Matthew Powell, Samford's Director of Basketball Operations, is the son of Peter Powell the Belmont PA announcer.

The teams have met 26 times with Belmont leading 15-11.

Belmont is currently undefeated.

ESPN+ has the streaming, and Kevin Ingram, the Voice of the Bruins, has the audio on the Bruins Sports Network. The Samford Sports Network will also carry the audio on the university's radio station WVS....Oh wait!!!

Or you could just carry your sorry self to the game and watch it in person, SU Dog.

BTW, that Purdue Fort Wayne Team that we beat up there played Eastern Illinois at EIU tonight. Final was the Mastodons 104 EIU 60. :o

Hope we have a good crowd. I think we will be the best defensive team they have faced, but it will be a tall task.

Monumental task. Belmont beat MTSU, one of the better teams in C-USA, by 19. We beat KSU by 14. Belmont beat them by 39.

I have to see a lot more of this team against tougher competition and against league opponents before I start buying into a rebuild. I also have to wait until well after season to see how many quality players defect.

Every game is different. One day your team is hot from three point land (shoot 70%), the opponent is cold. The next you are cold (shoot 30%—average 50%) and they are hot. Basketball is too streaky for me to compare one game to another. You can get trends from stats, but those stats cannot be assumed to apply to any particular game.

I would doubt it because tonight is Hanging of the Green in Reid Chapel. I wonder if we even have a band since so much music is part of HOG. We may get some students afterwards on their way to the dorms.

Not to discredit any of these events, but this IS Samford. If it isn't Hanging of the Green, it is fraternity doings, Step Sing, Jan Term. or various other events that are NOT coordinated with the athletic schedules. Athletics is often referred to as "The Front Porch of a University" but sometimes Athletics can be treated as a backyard occupant.
