SoCon bubble teams took a hit last night as St. Mary's conference tourney final upset over Gonzaga means the Zags have taken one of the at large bids.

I wonder if they do what businesses do and conduct an exit interview? I'm not talking, please don't go, but just why? Saying the coaches are driving kids away is perhaps a part but what else? Winning is obviously a part and culture play likely play into it and of course just greener pastures. But regardless, find out. We should likewise be finding out why kids are transferring in. It might help us sharpen our pitch to potential inbound transfer candidates as well as retain more of the talent we're already have.

Exit interviews and end of season reviews used to be standard operating procedures. I think compliance did exit interviews with all departing student-athletes. Don't know about what the SOP is now.

Did he think he was going to start as a freshman?

I don't know what he thought or didn't think, but he probably presumed that he would play in more than 13 games. He hasn't played double-figure minutes since November. It's hard for a kid who can play, who had good offers, and who is the highest-rated recruit in Samford basketball history to be the sixth guard in the rotation. Especially when a guy in his class who plays his position has played in 32 games at 12.6 mins per.

We've now gone from losing one starter and one rotation guy to losing a starter, two rotation guys from this team, and a guy who would have been a big contributor no later than 2020-21. The way the coaches are building this program isn't as structurally sound as it needs to be IMO. There is going to be a huge gap to fill when Sharkey, Gordon, and Austin leave after next season. There are like 120 mins of playing time per game that will be open season, and we'll have to rely on DeAndre Thomas and some young kids who aren't even on the radar screen right now to fill those minutes. Or we'll patch that hole with transfers, which will make it impossible to recruit impact HS players that think they'll just get dropped by the coaches when some high-major washout comes along.

AP, I assume you are referring to Guerrero as the starter we are losing, right?

Personally I think Fitzgerald should have redshirted this year. He looked terrible in the games he played and he couldn’t keep up physically. He needed a year or two to improve that before he could’ve contributed to this team.
