Rick Byrd retires

Rick Byrd retires

This note from the article was amazing to me: “Furthermore, in the NCAA Division I era, every Belmont player who completed eligibility under Byrd’s watch earned his degree, and only two scholarship student-athletes transferred out the last 15 years.”
Go Bulldogs!!!

Some guys have mojo. A coach has to be a psychologist, a father figure, a leader (in the true sense of the word), and a disciplined selector of talent. Dude did an amazing job of identifying a Belmont type player and then coaching them up like a mature sage. And that, my friends, is why I couldn’t stand him or Belmont. I got tired of getting beat by them.
In an imperfect world, absolute truth is divisive. There's no unity in truth. Decide then whether truth before unity or unity before truth?

We have as many kids transfer out of our program in a week as he did in 15 years.

Been reported that he was making north of 500k at Belmont. Good for him.

Good investment for Belmont in their enrollment and fundraising goals. He front-porched the heck out of that place. Bet they got a decent ROI.

Hate that he's retiring. He's a good ambassador for the game. Hate it even worse that we didn't get the W over them this season when we played them close.

That's going to be a great hire for DLU. Best actual basketball coach in the state of Alabama for more than a decade.
