Phillip Ervin Getting Going?

Phillip Ervin Getting Going?

Postby SU DOG » Mon Jul 01, 2019 3:59 pm

He had a terrific weekend series vs the Cubs at Cincy. Phillip was 5 for 10, three RBIs, and had a homer Friday. He made some good plays in the field also. In his last 7 games his average is .353. He is becoming more and more popular with the fans there, and I saw some Reds fans sarcastically saying "well I guess they'll send him back down soon." Hope he can continue producing. His salary is about $550,000, and while that is VERY good money, it is paltry when compared to many of his teammates.

He's been the victim of an overcrowded outfield. A couple of injuries have helped free up a couple of spots on the 25 man roster and given his recent production, I can't see them sending him down anytime soon. My bet is that he will be splitting time in the OF and will hit primarily against lefties.

Smurf, today Reds OF Jesse Winker got hurt, and it appears to be a torn oblique. I expect Phillip to see more starts, as that is an injury, if that is indeed the diagnosis, that takes time to heal. In his last 7 games, Phillip is hitting an incredible .556. Today he was 1 for 3 - a triple.

Seems to have his teammates pulling for him. BTW, he didn't start last night, but went 1 for 1, which I think makes him 19 for his last 34 - well over .500 :o

He's still not seeing much playing time. I don't know what more the kid has to do to be given a few starts during the week.

And AGAIN yesterday, he produced the only Reds run in the 8th. I say again because he didn't start, and he was a pinch hitter. Hard to understand.

I don't understand it either, SU DOG. As an avid Reds fan, I can tell you that 90% of what I read from the fans on this is that they don't get it either. If the Reds aren't gonna give the kid a fair chance (and he certainly deserves one given his recent performance), then they need to trade him before the deadline next week.
