Sad news.
In an imperfect world, absolute truth is divisive. There's no unity in truth. Decide then whether truth before unity or unity before truth?

I don't really have the words to express what Coach Sullivan has meant for Samford Football and really Samford University as a whole, but I am going to try. When he was hired in December of 2006, it gave Samford Football an immediate legitimacy. And not in a "win the press conference" type of way that seems so popular in today's world. He was a icon in Alabama sports, an experienced college coach, and a Heisman Trophy winner. When Coach Sullivan took the job, Samford had not beaten a ranked opponent since 1994 and had not made the playoffs since 1993. He would also see us through a transition of conferences that saw the quality of our opponents increase by a large margin. He developed a program that made a competitive SoCon football team way quicker than anyone thought possible. We beat ranked teams, got back in the top 25, made the playoffs, and won our first league championship in 2013. Most importantly, he accomplished all this not just within the university mission, but actually while enhancing the mission. The players that he brought into the program graduated, and many have gone on to be very successful alumni. He spearheaded the fundrasing for the fieldhouse, which was paid for entirely by donations. The largest benefactor of the fieldhouse went on to become the largest benefactor of the new Business School building. His impact is felt across the campus. Coach Sullivan loved Samford, evident by his continued involvement even after retiring from coaching. He was at games, even this year. Anything that the football program accomplishes for the foreseeable future is done on a foundation he built. He was an incredible man who's impact will be felt for generations through the players he coached and on Samford's campus for years to come. A true one of a kind.

Pat was also proud of the fact that his dad played for Samford. That post by sudog03 is about as eloquently stated as it could be.

Well said 03. Pat Sullivan was one of the most kind people I've ever met. He was always so generous with his time and he met everyone where they were. The world is better because of Patrick Joseph Sullivan.
