STREAK STATS: Samford has lost its last four road games, scoring 66 points, while allowing 93.5 per game.

Two programs going in different directions. Who is in charge at Samford?

Pretty bad when the ONLY drama surrounding this game is - Will Sharkey start?

.

Obviously those who care very little about winning. But, then, that’s the safe don’t call attention to SU because of Athletics way. I mean, what might someone think if SU went to the FCS Playoffs regularly and sometimes advanced? What might be the perception if hoops were not the whipping dog of the entire Southern Conference? What if a home game vs da mighty CT was actually promoted and more than 60 Samford fans showed up and gasp, a few cheerleaders and a semblance of a pep band? What if Samford games were actually on the radio with a real SU crew calling them? Folks, face the bleak reality that SU Athletics relevance has fallen to a non-relevant state. Being in metro Birmingham does absolutely no good. Might as well still be located in Marion. Likely would be better off.Systematically being killed by those or someone with a hidden agenda.

Oh I don't think the agenda has been hidden, nor has it been to systematically kill it off. SU decided to greatly increase spending in MBB. In the last 8 years we've added things to improve acoustics, new sound system, new scoreboard, new floor, multiple locker room renovations, paid to host meaningless postseason games during spring break when finishing in the bottom half of the league, paid coaches to not work. We just don't have anything to show for it.

Maybe Newton thought that the scoreboard, locker room renovations, increased funding, sounds improvements, etc., etc. was what it meant to emphasize basketball. Clearly he has forgotten that hiring the right basketball coaches who a) understand the SU culture, and b) can win also plays a wee part of whether a program can be successful. The guilty parent-spoiled chid-poor behavior model fits here.

The good thing about playing on the road is that the players get to play in front of a crowd.

Speaking of Sharkey, Every game turns into a Sharkey versus the other teams’s point guard to the detriment of our team

I feel sorry for Robert Allen. Kid gives it everything every game out. He could be something special. He’ll probably transfer to Belmont or UCF and play in the NCAA tournament in two years.

Twitter re next Samford game. “Remember, there is a red out”. Reply from some guy from Nashville: “how about a Padgett out.”
