Wofford game.

Ugh. Painful to watch that desperation fall away jumper go through the hoop.

Wolford? Who’s that? Seriously, I don’t know HOW we won. You guys got all the referee whistles and made 19/20 free throws (we only shot 10, making 8). You guys shot 67% for the GAME including over 70% from three point range. It’s a miracle we won. You guys have some great players and I think you should be winning more games than you are.

Aside from being happy about it, this post could be from any one of our regular posters.

Wolford or Wofford, we did play our best game of the year, and the effort that our starters made should be commended. These guys have to be so disappointed and tired mentally and physically. Hope we can recover and play well Saturday. Wofford is probably the class of the league, and once again Fletcher Magee was the difference late IMO.

Magee hit some tough ones late, no doubt. But, for me Brandon Austin was the best player on the floor last night, and by some distance. 11-15 from the field, 6-8 from 3, 31 points, only 1 turnover. Also, defended Magee most of the night, and I thought did a very admirable job of that. Austin is an outstanding player.

Sudog03 is right.

Honestly, Magee is overhyped thanks to early success in this league. His 3 FG% has gradually dropped from 47% when he was a freshman to 36% now. His overall FG% is now at 40 compared to 47 when he was a freshman. FG%, 3 FG%, PPG, rebounds, and assists are also down from his junior year. He is not all that efficient.

Conversely, although Austin averages about five fewer points per game, his FG% is 45% (compared to Magee's 40%), his 3 FG% efficiency is also at 45% (Magee's is at 36%) and he hauls down about three times as many boards as Magee does, although they both average the same amount of minutes a game.

No argument from me about Brandon. I told 03 earlier in the season that we had just scratched the surface in seeing what he could do. Last night I just thought our best chance was to win in regulation, and that is where I thought Magee really hurt us late. Also did y' all see where Sports Center made a big deal about that game?

Even as a Wofford fan, I agree with Smurf that Fletcher, while an excellent player, has been overrated at times. HIs shooting percentages and scoring averages have declined as teams learn more and more on how to defend him. And that is exactly why I disagree with people who think Wofford will all of a sudden become a mediocre team once Fletcher leaves. He’s just not as important as many think- there are other good players on the team and its not all about him. And sometimes when Fletcher takes long tough shots and misses them, I think he might actually-gulp-hurt the team!

Wofford won’t take a step back until Mike Young retires. Very few I respect more than him. He gets it done.
Go Bulldogs!!!
