Furman Drops Baseball Program

I am hopeful that this isn't the tip of the iceberg and that Furman is just using the virus to mask intentions to move away from unprofitable sports.

What do y'all think? Legitimate financial crunch that calls for dropping baseball or taking advantage of the virus to reallocate funds?

Primarily liberal arts schools that have been charging 60k+ a year are in for some hard times (i.e. Furman and Wofford). I dont think Wofford offers a graduate degree of any kind and basically the only ones Furman offers are in education. The shift Samford made a decade or so ago towards more professional degrees and the health sciences was very prescient. Mercer is also much better positioned.

Furman is panicky or it has been mismanaged and good times were covering over a host of sins. These are drastic measures—coaches and administrators were overpaid and they were looking to get rid of some scholarships before Covid hit. There is no other explanation for this. Furman must have been loving hand to mouth.

Their endowment is quite a bit larger than SUs.

Just depends on what kind of enrollment drop they are expecting I guess. When the person making the decisions takes a 20% pay cut, that tells me it's pretty serious.
